It’s time for Halloween fun “Where You Live!’ We’re working on a great show for you and your family featuring all sorts of exciting Halloween Tricks and Treats! We’ll be at the Zoo Goes Boo at the John Ball Zoo-see how they have transformed the Zoo into a kooky, not spooky place for families! My friend Shari from Meijer has some very clever ideas on treats you and your kids can make together. Jennifer from Safe Kids at Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital will share practical tips on ways to make your childrens’ costumes safe and Elizabeth from Fifth Third Bank will share great ideas on ways to make last minute deocrations and costumes without breaking the bank. Plus, we’ll chat with magician Allan Kazam and he’ll show you how to do a magic trick that will wow your Halloween guests! And my favorite part of the show is photos submitted by our Facebook fans showcasing super cute costumes! We’ll visit Gull Meadow Farms in Richland to explore pumpkin patches, corn mazes and apple cannons! Our friends at the Meijer Innovation Center will show you how to make two fall soups your family will love, find out about a new Fifth Third River Bank Run program and have the chance to win four passes to The Zoo Goes Boo-Goes Bigger at the John Ball Zoo! Plus, see how students at Kent Hills Elementary preparing for their field trip to the Grand Rapids Art Museum and discover what’s new at Air Zoo! It’s all coming up this weekend on “Where You Live” Saturday at 7:30 a.m. on WOTV 4 and 6:30 p.m. on WOOD TV 8 and Sunday at noon on WOTV 4.
Although summer is coming to a close, the John Ball Zoo is still offering tons of fun stuff for families. Executive Director, Brenda Stringer, gave us a behind the scenes tour.
This summer over 65,000 kids participated in the Summer Reading Club at their local libraries. The 2011 Summer Reading Club was a huge hit in communities around West Michigan! As kids read books they earned prizes and when they met their reading goals they received a free ticket to the West Michigan Whitecaps. Every library also received a gift card from Meijer, a family four pack to the Holland Aquatic Center and free t-shirts from Touchstone Energy! We also had several big prizes to give away. Kids from each library where registered to win and here’s the list of winners:
