The 2010 Park Party season is officially over and it’s been incredible!! This summer we have served over 30,000 kids and families by providing free food and free fun in six locations around West Michigan. I want to thank every person that participated in the events. Girls today are bombarded with message telling them how they should look, act, dress and behave. Maranda teamed up with her partners to put on a special event for middle school girls called Presenting U.
This week on “Where You Live” we’re looking at the importance of talking to our tween and teenage girls about Inner Beauty! We hosted an event at Ferris State Univeristy -GR called, “Presenting U”. The day long event brought together many of our wonderful partners that inspired over 50 eighth grade girls to love themselves exactly the way they are. Pine Rest Christian Services and Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital sent in their experts to share hands-on, interactive ways girls can develop strong self-esteem and friendships. Priority Health taught simple ways to get the girls moving and Meijer folks shared easy ways to eat a little healthier. Ferris took time to talk about finding your “Career Color” and encouraged the girls to explore a variety of Career Pathways! The students at GRCC’s Culinary Arts program prepared a wonderful lunch for the girls and toured them through their kitchens! A real highlight was the Pure Passion for Fashion, fashion show featuring modest clothing from Meijer. The teen models from Comstock Park High School were awesome! Each girl also received an amazing tote bag packed with fun items. We’re giving some away during the show too so watch to win! It was a great event and I hope you enjoy this weekend’s show!
This weekend on “Where You Live” it’s an explosion of science fun! We’ll visit the Public Museum of Grand Rapids to check out the new exhibit, “Big, Big, Bugs!”. We’ll also talk with experts at the VanAndel Institute and Ferris State University to get their best tips on fostering a love of science in your kids! Bring science to life this weekend-”Where You Live” Saturday-7:30 a.m. and p.m. on WOTV 4 and 6:30 p.m. on WOOD TV 8.
