Are You Getting the Flu Shot?

I see the "it came out too fast" argument a lot, and it leaves me very curious. How long does the "normal" flu shot take to develop? My understanding is the turnaround time is about 1 year - in other words, right now they are working on next year's vaccine. If that is the case, how is that turnaround time any different from the H1N1 turnaround time? Why should anyone think the H1N1 vaccine is any more rushed than the typical, "seasonal" shot? Just some questions I'd love to see answered :)

I'm getting my daughter the flu shot, i have to wait until she is not sick, right now she has a virus that is attacking her in every way possible. I'm not sure about the H1N1 shot, my husband and I will talk about it when he comes home from Iraq on leave. It scares me to know that it is not known what will happen to young kids that get it, my daughter is 2 years old and i would hate it if she got sick or died from the shot, but i don't know if i should take the risk of her not getting the shot and getting swine flu, it is hard to know what the right thing is.

I'll ask Dr. Fox from Priority Health today in our interview about the H1N1 shot. Log on to local retailer websites to check locations and calendars. I searched several sites and most are offering the regular flu shot.

I am very torn on the H1N1 shot. I feel like they rushed it and not enough testing has been done on it and I am not sure I am willing to use my children as guinea pigs.
As for the regular flu shot, we will most likely be getting those, if I can find one! My doctors office has been out for 10 days and the Kent County Health department is out too. My insurance will cover it so, I need to go somewhere that will charge my insurance company. Will Walgreens do that?

Flu shots are being offered at major retailers including Meijer and Walgreens. Spectrum Health is offering flu shots at over 200 locations. Your primary care giver, larger churches and your local health department also are good sources to check for both the regular flu shot and the H1N1 vaccine. I checked around the price of the flu shot ranges from $20-$35 at most locations. Two great websites for more info. on both shots are www.priorityhealth.org and www.devoschildrens.org

I have never gotten the flu shot for my two boys before but after hearing the statistics on the news a couple of nights ago, I did call my doctor and make an appt for them to get the H1N1 when it comes to his office. I don't reason to take a chance with a strain this new.

Yes! I'm getting my three kids vaccinated for both. I'm waiting to see when the h1n1 will be available at our doctor's office-as soon as we can get it-we will!
