Staying active…together

IMG_4472We found her at a shelter — much bigger than we had planned for the family dog.  But her gentle brown eyes caught me and held on.  Then, seeing her gentleness with our kids (ages 1, 3 and 5 at the time), we knew we had found her.  Our three-year-old daughter promptly named her, “Piper,” and even though she may have really meant, “Pepper,” there was no going back.

My Semi-Homemade Masterpiece

DSCN0600_217Earlier this week, I found myself in the middle of a pile of string, faux fur, napkins and a giggling three year old.  This year, my daughter Sophia wanted to be a black cat for Halloween.  Although the local costume shop offered plenty of easy options, I couldn’t bear forking over $29.99 for a one-time-wear costume.  I’m normally not a very crafty person, but I decided to take some advice from Where You Live’s finance expert, Jennifer Ranville, and try making my own costume this year.

Come on, Christmas already?!

Okay, I love holidays as much as the next person but I’m a bit sad to see so many stores already hauling out the Christmas gear.   I don’t want to have to dig through boxes of ornaments to find feather Halloween masks.  I still have some lawn furniture out and they’re already implying I need to set up the glowing reindeer!?  Call me old fashioned but I like to savor each season.  Enjoy the moment.  Most of my days are already too rushed and passing by too quickly.    So with that being said, I’m digging my heels in firmly to the still soft soil and I’m going to relish all the Halloween happening.  Then, I’m going to thoughtfully embrace every minute of Thanksgiving.  And then, and only then, will I move on to celebrating the amazing Christmas season.  What about you?
