Movers for Moms

logo-nationalheritageNational Heritage Academies has teamed up with Two Men and a Truck to help collect clothing and personal care items for women living in local shelters.  It’s a campaign that involves over 30 charter schools across the state with all proceeds going to benefit the YWCA West Central Michigan.

You can drop off items at Chandler Woods Academy, Knapp Academy, Vanguard Academy or Walker Academy.  Students will be collecting through Thursday, May 7.

Have You Heard of Freepeats?

yourmoney-yourfamily-125Freepeats is a frugal parenting website founded by an Atlanta woman who was looking for a way to pass on gently-used baby and maternity items to other nearby parents.  Since the launch in 2005 there are over 21,000 members offering swings, cribs, strollers, toys, clothing and more.

Last week, Freepeats opened to Grand Rapids area parents and is offering a great one-time only membership deal of $4.95 to participate.  Check it out at www.freepeats.org.

NCIS Visits Kent Career Tech Center

Last week, Tom Betro, Director of the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS), visited Grand Rapids to talk to college and high school students about careers in federal law enforcement.

 

Fifth Third Junior

On your mark, get set, go!  It’s time for Fifth Third Junior, a fun race for kids ages 5-13 taking place on Wednesday, May 6th at Rogers High School in Wyoming.  Registration starts at 4:30 and racing action at 5:30 p.m.   Kids can choose from a 1/2 mile or 1 mile fun run and older kids can run the 5K.   Registration is just $5.  Come out and meet Cruiser from Craig’s Cruisers and members of the Priority Health Cycling Team, too!  See you there!

Give A Glove!

logo-whitecapsGive a glove and make a difference!  Starting Monday, May 4 you can donate new or gently used ball gloves to benefit the YMCA Inner City Youth Baseball and Softball Program.  This program gives ball gloves and equiptment to those in need, so all children can enjoy the game of baseball this summer.  You can drop off your glove at Fifth Third Ballpark, any Fifth Third Bank location or the YMCA.  In exchange for your glove, you’ll recieve two free tickets to a West Michigan Whitecaps baseball game.

2009 Tulip Time Festival

In this weekend’s show we introduced you to Jan Mulder, a globally recognized pianist who lives in Holland, Michigan.  Jan has taught his three sons to play the piano and their family will be performing this Saturday, May 2 at 7:30pm as part of the Tulip Time Festival.  For more information on Jan’s concert as well as all the events scheduled visit www.tuliptime.com.
