Take a Learning Adventure

logo-nationalheritageWhether you’re staying home this spring break or hitting the road, spring break can be a learning experience for your child.  Here are some simple ways to incorporate learning into everyday activities.

1.  Games.  Games are a great way to get your children thinking.  Start by testing their reading skills and going over the directions together.  Then have them be creative and come up with new rules or different ways to play the game.

2.  Filling up the Tank.  Next time you hit the gas station talk to your children about it.  Use math skills to figure out how many miles per gallon your car gets or have them help calculate the cost as you fill up.

‘Where You Live’ – March 21, 2009

This week we’re showing you how West Michigan families celebrate the special occasions in their lives.

Make Everyday Special for Your Child

pinerest-125In this week’s show we talked to Dr. Nicole Ware Spencer of Pine Rest Christian Services.  Here’s what she had to say about making kids feel special.

What are some simple things parents can do with their kids to make them feel special?

One thing I recommend is giving your children hugs daily.  This takes no time at all and it’s a very special and powerful connection that can alter behavior and make someone feel loved.

Parents can also do simple things like leave notes on their child’s pillow, lunch bag or on the bathroom mirror.  These notes can have positive messages such as “I love you,” or “You’re an awesome kid.”  Teenagers also value positive messages such as “You’re a special part of my life.”
