Free Family Fun Where You Live!
The Leila Arboretum in Battle Creek is a great place for the whole family to run, play and explore nature! Their children’s garden offers hands-on activities for kids like crafts, mazes and loads of space for kids to run and play! Best of all, now through the end of September all special event days when the Children’s Garden is open are totally free!
The Grand Rapids Art Museum is an amazing place to visit. Families can explore great art, take in special events and enjoy the musuem’s collection through hands-on learning opportunities. Admission to the Grand Rapids Art Museum is free every Tuesday afternoon between 1-5pm.
Local parks around West Michigan offer hours of free fun for kids of all ages. Some parks offer free crafts and activities for kids other parks partner with organizations such as Battle Creek’s Fun on the Run. They bring free programing into neighborhoods!
A real gem in Kalamazoo is the Kalamazoo Valley Museum. Admission is always free and it’s a great place for kids to play, learn and create!
Get the whole family outdoors and explore one of the many beautiful bike trails in Western and Southwest Michigan. These trails offer miles of free fun for walkers, roller bladers and bike riding!
Speaking of biking, the Priority Grand Cycling Classic is coming back to downtown Grand Rapids on Saturday, September 6. Hundreds of amature and professional cyclists will race on the red bricks of downtown at speeds close to 40 miles per hour! It’s a huge thrill to watch this amazing racing action.
Kids nine and under can participate in the Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital Kids Race taking place during the Priority Grand Cycling Classic. Plus, the first one hundred kids to sign up for the event will get a FREE Bike Helment!
The Grand Rapids Ballet Company is offering a free community open house on September 6. The entire family can try a class or sample a performance. Activities are scheduled from Noon-4pm.
Free kids activities take place at the Holland Farmers Market on Wednesday, August 27th from 10-11am. Just head on over the Holland Civic Center.
On Thursday, September 11, the John Ball Zoo is offering a free day to all families. Bring the family out anytime between 10am-4pm to enjoy a fun day at the Zoo! On your visit be sure to check out the new lion exhibit and all the other beautiful creatures for free.
How about a free day at the YMCA! The YMCA in downtown Grand Rapids is hosting a free family wellness carnival on September 20 from 11am-2pm. Famliies can enjoy the beautiful David D. Hunting YMCA–the pools, the work out area, the indoor basketball courts and more! Plus, there will be a few extras like family dancing, obstacle courses, cooking demos and more!

One way that we spend quality family time together that is free is to go to Pier Marquette beach in Muskegon where we live. Its is within bike riding distance or if we do drive it only takes 5 min. to get there. There is no cost for parking and the beach is beatiful, less crowded than Grand Haven and we are guarnteed that we will have fun:)
