Back to School Shopping with Shari
This week I hit the aisles of Meijer with our friend Shari Steinbach. Here are some things to remember when doing your back to school shopping!
1. Breakfast – Studies show that breakfast in the morning actually helps your kids do better in school! Make sure to start the morning off right with a good breakfast. Keep simple items on hand like whole grain bagels, toast and cereal, fresh fruit and low-fat milk.
2. Lunch – When packing your child’s lunch look for quick, simple and healthy options. Sandwiches, wraps and pita sandwiches are all good options. Make sure to throw in some veggies and dip for a fun healthy side.
3. School Supplies – One of the hottest trends this fall in school supplies is going green. Look for binders, notebooks and pencils made of recyclable materials.
4. Clothes – With the weather still warm, many kids are still going to be sporting summer clothes this fall. It is important to make sure your child has the proper gym clothes and tennis shoes.
5. Pharmacy – Back to school is a great time to get up to date on your child’s prescriptions and medications. Also, start off the year with some new personal hygiene items such as a toothbrush, hair products and deodorant.
I’ve been a part of the WOOD TV8 team since 2005. As Special Projects Producer, I work side by side with Maranda making things happen behind the scenes. I coordinate Maranda’s Park Parties each summer and produce a variety of station broadcasts and events through out the year. I also serve as the producer of Maranda’s weekly half-hour show, Where You Live. I love the variety of my job and getting to be a part of the impact Maranda is making on kids in our community!
Outside of work, I've been married for seven years to my husband John and we have two beautiful daughters, Sophia and Stella. When I'm not busy trying to keep up with the kids, I spend "me time" reading fashion or celebrity magazines, sneaking in some good reality television, walking around Reeds Lake with girlfriends and exploring new restaurants with my hubby.
Inspirations for my blog come from my daily life as a busy working mom -- trying to juggle a full time job and be a full time mom to a spitfire five year old and a new baby.
